What is IPMA?

Project Management Competence Baseline ? also called IPMA ICB ? is a methodology that is based on a competency-based approach to project management and is designed to help project managers plan, implement and evaluate projects in an efficient and professional manner.

The IPMA ICB addresses four competence areas: Project Management, project management in context, project management skills, and personal skills.

1. Project management: This includes the basic skills and competencies needed to manage a project. This includes planning, implementation, evaluation and management of projects, including project portfolio, program and project management.

2. Project management in context: The ability to understand and deal with the specific context of the project. It includes knowledge of the organizational, cultural and political conditions the project is in, including management of stakeholders, communication, contracts and legislation.

3. Project management skills: Skills specific to project management. It includes communication, risk management,

4. Personal skills: Personal characteristics and skills important for project management. It includes leadership, creativity, stress management, problem solving, decision making and the ability to work in teams. It is also important to have good self-awareness and the ability to learn and improve oneself.

Done area of competence This competency area focuses on the project manager's ability to lead himself and the project team, by having the right personal qualities, being able to navigate complex situations, and being able to work with different people. It is also important to have a good work-life balance in order to manage stress and remain effective in project management.

As a project manager, when using IPMA's project management method (IPMA ICB), there are several things you should be aware of to ensure the success of the project:

1. Competence development: It is important to understand the competence needs of the project and ensure that the project team has the necessary competences to complete the project. It is also important to work actively with the team members to develop their competencies and skills.

2. Management of competences: It is important to lead and motivate the team members so that they can give their best and develop their skills. It is also important to ensure that team members have the right balance between responsibility and autonomy.

3. Competence evaluation: It is important to regularly evaluate the skills of the project team to ensure that they continue to match the requirements of the project. It can also help identify any problems or deficiencies that need to be corrected.

4. Flexibility: It is important to be flexible and adapt to changes in the project and the need for competence. It may be necessary to adapt or change the competence development or the composition of the team during the project.

5. Communication: It is important to have good communication with all project participants, including customers, stakeholders and the project team. It is also important to have a clear and distinct communication plan for the project.

6. Risk management: It is important to identify and manage risks in the project at an early stage. This can help minimize negative effects and ensure the project stays on track.

There are several good reasons to choose IPMA ICB, which include: Competence-based, flexibility and International.

As a project manager, you should bear in mind that IPMA's Project Management Methodology (IPMA ICB) is a competency-based approach to project management and that it is important to focus on developing and applying their competencies in various areas of project management. It is also important to adapt the method to the project's specific requirements and context, and to be flexible and adapt to changes in the project.

It is important to have good communication with all project participants, identify and manage risks, lead and develop the competencies of the project team, manage and implement changes, ensure the quality of the project, evaluate the project after completion, and continuously document and update one's competence
