What is PRINCE2?

PRINCE2 (Projects IN Controlled Environments) is a recognized method to use for project management. It provides a framework for handling projects in a controlled and organized manner. PRINCE2 is known for providing a systematic approach to planning, leading and controlling a project. It is based on principles, themes and processes which form the basis of the method.

PRINCE2 is flexible and can be adapted to projects of any size and complexity. The method has defined roles and responsibilities for each phase of the project, such as project owner, project manager and project management group. It is important to follow the method's principles, themes and processes to ensure effective project management.

Principles in PRINCE2

Prince2 is based on seven basic principles that ensure that the project is managed correctly and efficiently. They also ensure that the project is aimed at meeting the needs of the business. 

1. Management of the project: It is crucial that the project is led by an experienced project manager with the necessary knowledge to manage the project according to the method's principles and rules.

2. Allocation of responsibility and control: It is important to assign clear roles in all phases of the project so that everyone involved knows who is responsible for what.

3. Learning from experience: Learning from the experience of previous projects is important to improve the project and prevent the repetition of the mistakes.

4. The project must be driven by business needs: The project must be directed towards the business needs so that it can deliver value to the organization.

5. The project must be managed by risks: To ensure that the project proceeds as planned, it is essential to identify and manage risks.

6. The project must be guided by quality: It is important to ensure that the project delivers high quality products and meets the requirements.

7. The project must be managed by resources: It is important to ensure that the project has the necessary resources to complete the project successfully.

The themes in PRINCE2

Prince2 is also based on a number of themes that ensure that important aspects of the project are under constant monitoring and management. They also ensure that the project is in accordance with the method's principles and rules.

1. Management of products: It is important to ensure that the project's products are correctly defined, designed and quality assured.

2. Quality management: It is important to ensure that the project delivers high quality products and meets the requirements.

3. Risk Management: It is important to identify and manage risks to ensure that the project proceeds as planned.

4. Management of changes: It is important to ensure that the project is adapted to changes in business needs and risks.

5. Management of the project management group: It is important to ensure that the project management group is properly composed and manages the project according to the principles and rules of the method.

6. Communication management: It is important to ensure that communication between project participants and stakeholders is correct and effective.

The processes in PRINCE2

Initiation: Identification of the project's purpose, goals, requirements and resources. This also includes researching possible projects and choosing the project that best meets the organization's needs.

Planning: Development of a detailed project plan, including schedules, budgets and risk management. This is also the phase where you define project products and how to measure the success of the project. 

Performance: Execution of the project's activities according to the plan. This is also where you manage the project's activities and products.

Monitoring and control: Regular monitoring and control of project progress and adjustments as needed. This is also the phase where you revise the project plan and identify changes.

Closing: Completion of the project and evaluation of the project's results and learning along the way. This is also where it is ensured that the project's products have been handed over to the operating organization and that the project's lessons have been learned.
